| Objective To investigate gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) functional networks changes in self-limited epilepsy children with centrotemporal spikes (SeLECTS). Methods A total of 69 children with SeLECTS (SeLECTS group) and 66 healthy controls (HC group) were retrospectively enrolled. K-means clustering was applied to identify functional networks. Connectivity differences were assessed between groups. Correlations between aberrant network connectivity and clinical variables (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children scores, disease duration and seizure onset age) were evaluated. Results Eight GM functional networks and eight WM functional networks were identified, respectively. Compared with HC group, SeLECTS group exhibited significantly increased intra-network connectivity, alongside decreased connectivity among multiple GM networks and reduced GM-WM connectivity (all adjusted P<0.05). Performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) score was positively correlated with WM4-GM7 connectivity strength, while earlier seizure onset age was negatively correlated with multiple GM connections and GM-WM connectivity. Conclusion Children with SeLECTS exhibited whole-brain scale functional network connectivity dysfunction, characterized by impairment across GM-WM networks. |
