Objective To observe the correlations of 99Tcm-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) SPECT/CT quantitative metabolic parameters of lumbar vertebrae with patients' general data. Methods A total of 45 malignant tumor patients (22 males and 23 females) without bone involvement were prospectively enrolled, and whole body bone imaging and lumbar spine SPECT/CT were performed. Based on SPECT/CT images, the volumes of interest (VOI) were placed on lumbar vertebrae, and the maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax), mean standard uptake value (SUVmean), metabolic bone volume (MBV) and total bone uptake (TBU) were measured. Pearson correlation analysis was used to observe the correlations of metabolic parameters of lumbar vertebrae with patients'general data, including age, height and body mass. Results SUVmax of lumbar vertebrae were positively correlated with height, body mass and age (r=0.196, 0.189, 0.227, all P<0.05), while SUVmean were positively correlated with height and age (r=0.135, 0.133, both P<0.05) but not significantly correlated with body mass (P>0.05). MBV (r=0.221, 0.583, 0.410) and TBU (r=0.205, 0.441, 0.280) of lumbar vertebrae were all positively correlated with age, height and body mass (all P<0.05). There were significant differences of SUVmax, MBV and TBU of lumbar vertebrae between males and females (all P<0.05), but not of SUVmean(P>0.05). Conclusion 99Tcm-MDP SPECT/CT quantitative metabolic parameters of lumbar vertebrae were related to patients' age, gender and body mass.
