Objective To study the feasibility of MEGA-PRESS sequence of magnetic resonance spectroscopy by quantitatively detecting γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) of corpus striatum. Besides, to explore the relationship among the gender age and the amount of GABA in corpus striatum. Methods A total of 117 healthy volunteers were recruited. Three-dimentional MP-RAGE sequence was acquired for coronal sagittal and axial orientations for exact planning. Volumes of interest were located in the corpus striatum region. Then the datas were imported into LCModel software, acquired the GABA content at 3.0 ppm by MEGA-PRESS sequence. Results All 103 volunteers were conformed to LCModel data standard . Concentration of GABA in left right corpus striatum decreased with aging (F=17.429, 10.415) in tatal volunteers (P< 0.01). Concentration of GABA in left right corpus striatum decreased with aging in male volunteers (F=9.459, 6.666) and female volunteers (F=8.479, 3.457) with statistical differences (all P< 0.01). There were no statistical difference between left and right corpus striatum for GABA concentration in male and female volunteers (t=0.471, 0.891, both P> 0.05), as well as that in total volunteers (t=0.483, P> 0.05). Conclusion GABA concentrations of corpus striatum in normal human will decrease with aging. The different sexes have the same GABA concentrations. GABA is distributed symmetrically on the left and right sides. |
