In recent years, experimental and preclinical studies for gene therapy of cardiovascular diseases achieved rapid developments. Molecular imaging is a novel discipline with the goal to display and quantify molecular and cellular targets in vivo, providing a real-time, non-invasive method to monitor gene therapy of cardiovascular diseases and promoting the development and perfection of this therapeutic mode. The application of molecular imaging in gene therapy of cardiovascular diseases including the advances of molecular probes and imaging technologies (nuclear medicine, MRI, ultrasound imaging and fluorescent) were reviewed in this article. |
