Standardized uptake value (SUV) for fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) studies that was widely used to differentiate malignant from benign tumors and to assess the efficacy of therapy was regarded as a simplified calculation of the more general modeling approach. Based on such a theoretical foundation, the merits and limitations of SUV were examined with reference to literature reports on tumor uptake of FDG. Due to so many variable effect factors influencing SUV determination, a lot of control measures and improved Methods are introduced. With the development of science and technology, SUV would become more and more accurate, valid and acceptable. |
