Objective Transesophageal echocardiographic ( TEE) observation of left atrial appendage (LAA) stunning after conversion of non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Methods In 17 cases of non-valvular atrial fibrillation ,multiplanar TEE
was used to measure post-conversion blood flow frequency spectrum;LAA peak evacuation velocity (LAA-PEV) before conversion ,24 h and 1 week after conversion ,and peri-conversion left atrial spontaneous echo contrast ( SEC) . Results ①
LAA blood flow frequency spectrum became of sinus rhythm model after conversion. ②LAA-PEV was 30. 8 ±10. 3 cm/ s
before conversion ,23. 3 ±10. 2 cm/ s 24h after conversion ( P < 0. 001) . ③LAA-PEV was 66. 4 ±12. 5 cm/ s 1 week after
conversion ,with the latter being basically approximate to 70. 4 ±10. 9 cm/ s reported previously by us in normal subjects. ④
SEC was present in left atrium in 7 cases before conversion ,increased in density in 5 of 7 after conversion ;SEC was absent
in 10 cases before conversion ,appeared in 3 of 10 after conversion. Conclusion LAA was found to have stunning after conversion of atrial fibrillation ,and to restore normal function 1 week after conversion in this series of cased. |
