      Objective According to the technical characteristics of EPI ,to study the value and the limits of different contrast EPI in the diagosis of brain diseases. OMethods Routine MRI and EPI were performed in 136 cases with brain diseases. Results ①The sensitivity and specificity for using EPI-DWI and EPI-T3 WI in the diagnosis of cerebral acute stroke were both 100 %. While combined TSE-T2WI with T1WI ,the sensitivity and specificity were 0 % and 42.85 % respctively. Diagnostic values of the two groups for ischemic stroke are significantly different (χ2 = 14.08 , P < 0.01) . ②epidermoid was demonstrated as cysts with long T1 and logn T2 signal which could not be differentiated from arachnoid cysts. epidermoid lesion was of isoro hyperintensity on diffusion-weighted imaging with the ADC value of 8.75 ×10-4mm2/ s. While the arachnoid cysts and the necrosis in the center of tumor was shown as hypointensity with the ADC value of water. ③In the dynamic EPI-T3 WI perfusion imaging ,contrast pass peak time imaging (CPI) could demonstrated the ischemic lesions as hyperintensity while rich blood supply tumors were demonstrated as hypointensity. Routine MR examinations including enhenced T1WI could not find tumors lesion in 3 cases which could be demonstrated on CPI by the difference of microcircular blood supply contrast . Conclusion EPI could provide several new functional contrast imaging including the water molecular diffusion and cerebral blood flow. Comprehensive utilization of EPI and routine MR sequence is helpful for the improvement of the diagnosis the differentiation of brain diseases ,and has great clinical value.
