| Objective To evaluate the effect of ultrasound in monitoring middle cerebral artery (MCA) and umbilical
artery (UA) blood flow. OMethods Color Doppler ultrasound was used to examine the blood flow velocity waveforms of fetal MCA and UA in 69 cases of normal pregnancy and 16 cases with fetal distress and 5 cases with perinatal mortality. The
peak systolic/ diastolic ratio (S/ D) and resistance index (RI) values of MCA and UA were calculated. Results The results
showed that values of MCA and UA in normal group were gradually decreased in correspondent to gestational period. MCA
values in abnormal pregnancies were lower in the normal ones. Contrarily ,UA values in abnormal pregnant women were remarkably inceeased ,suggesting preferential blood supply to brain in case of abnormal pregnancy. Conclusion This study
demonstrates that the monitoring of fetal blood flow velocity waveforms in MCA and UA plays an important role in prediction of the fetus development and abnormality. |
