Objective To study the relationship between the stricture diameter and its ratio ( stricture diameter/
prestenotic urethral diameter) obtained from sonography and the maximum urinary flow-rate. OMethods Twenty-two patients with traumatogenic urethral strictures underwent urethrosonography. At the same time ,all patients were subjected to
urinary flow-rate determination. The diameter of the stricture and prestenotic urethral diameter at 10mm proximal to the
stricture were measured on the sonograph. The ratio was then calculated. Results A correlation was found between stricture diameter and maximum urinary flow-rate ( r = 0. 68) and a still higher correlation between the ratio and the flow-rate
( r = 0. 85) . Conclusion Urinary flow-rate determination combined with urethrosonography is helpful to evaluate postoperative micturition objectively. |
